Jesus, Rock of Ages
07.16.05 (2:00 am)   [edit]

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Save from wrath and make me pure.

Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Savior, or I die.

Wilt Thou not regard my call? Wilt Thou not accept my prayer?
Lo! I sink, I faint, I fall—Lo! on Thee I cast my care;
Reach me out Thy gracious hand! While I of Thy strength receive,
Hoping against hope I stand, dying, and behold, I live.

While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name, I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

Combination of two hymns, Rock of Ages and Jesus Lover of My Soul

There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Imannuel's veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.

Did you purposely juxtapose an Arminian hymn with that of wrathful Calvinist to show their similarities?

Some one once said in a jest, perhaps at Pearly Gate, before letting them pass, St. Peter would require Wesley to sing Rock of Ages while Toplady will have to sing Jesus, Lover of My Soul.

At the core of contemplation, when the Spirit bears witness with his spirit, the hymn writer can but praise God in godly verses. And i believe both hymns were written at such moments.

Agree with you Jack

All who belongs to Christ are given His Spirit to sing out hymns ... even the birds and His creation praise the Lord.

Arminian , Calvinist etc are subjected under His grace and love.
